Watch the story of India’s freedom struggle come alive after dark at the Cellular Jail, Sri Vijaya Puram’s most moving national memorial.
Built by the British between 1896 and 1906, the Cellular Jail held hundreds of freedom fighters in solitary confinement, far from the mainland – the exile once known as Kala Pani. Today it is a National Memorial and one of the most visited sites in the Andaman Islands.
Explore the galleries, the museum and the central watchtower by day, then return in the evening for the Light & Sound Show. Staged in the jail’s courtyard, it uses narration, music and lighting to retell the prisoners’ stories – a powerful experience for visitors of all ages.
Good to know
- Shows run in the evening in Hindi and English. Timings and languages can change, so check the day’s schedule before you go.
